DEFINE YOUR GOAL: IS IT WEIGHT LOSS OR FAT LOSS?

Being overweight or obese due to carrying excess body weight and fat, is a concept easy to digest (pun intended)! But can you be skinny and fat at the same time? The answer is YES.  Visceral fat can accumulate around your internal organs, even though your body may appear relatively skinny on the outside. And this type of fat poses an even greater risk to your health than a flabby stomach, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Weight loss could simply be the result of many starvation methods, using the toilet or  dehydration. In the process you will lose muscle mass as well, which can slow your metabolism and overall create havoc to your body. On the other hand, fat loss, is a bit harder to achieve aka takes determination, discipline and time. The benefits though are endless from health, to looks,  and overall mood and stamina.

To help the understanding of fat vs. weight loss it is important to understand few related concepts:

  • Body composition – your body composition is the total percentage of fat, tissues, bone, and muscle in your body.
  • Physical fitness – is a state of health and well-being and, more specifically, the ability to perform aspects of sports, occupations and daily activities. Physical fitness is generally achieved through proper nutrition, moderate-vigorous physical exercise, and sufficient rest.
  • Health – The World Health Organization (WHO) defined human health in its broader sense in its 1948 constitution as “a state of complete physical, mental, and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity.
